Spelling test practice for this week’s list

A weekly spelling test is often a short list of words, tested at the end of the week. SpellKitty turns that list into practice your child can do on their own: the kitty says each word, and your child spells it out loud.

How it works

  1. Type or paste the week’s words. One word a line, up to thirty, with a meaning after a dash if you like.
  2. The kitty says each word. Your child holds the button and spells it out loud, six words at a time.
  3. Every letter is checked as it is said, on the iPhone or iPad. A miss gets a second try, then a look at which letter went wrong.
  4. Missed words come back in practice until they’re right.

Try it with this list

Open this link on an iPhone or iPad with SpellKitty and the list goes straight into the app. Without the app, it opens a page that shows the list.

Sharing with the class

A grown-up can share any list by link or QR code, so another family gets the same words in a tap. The words travel inside the link itself: nothing is uploaded, and nobody needs an account.

Why out loud?

Saying each letter makes a child slow down and commit to every letter in order, the same way an oral test or a spelling bee asks. SpellKitty shows each letter as it is said, so your child hears the word and sees it at once.

What it costs

Your first list is free; more lists come with SpellKitty Pro. Opening a shared list is always free. SpellKitty Pro, one purchase with no subscription, keeps any number of lists; without it, one list is kept at a time.
